Solving Equations

Equation - A mathematical statement with two expressions that have the same value.

EG.
x+2=3 1+1=2 --equation
x+2 is the expression and also is 3
2+3=6-1
--2+3 & 6-1 are both an expression
and the whole thing is called an equation and the whole thing is an equation
y-7=-4 3a-2=a+2

An equal sign (=) doesn't always mean the answer, it can mean it has the same value

2B+1=5

C+4= C=5
5+4
9

2C+3
2 is the numerical coefficient
C is the variable
3 is the constant

Writing Expressions - An expression can be written using a single constant, a single variable or a combination of operations with the constants, variables, or numerical coefficients.
EG.
2y-7
2-numerical coefficient
y-variable
- - operation
7- constant

Write the Equation

C+3=7

Expression - 3C-5
Variable - C
Numerical Coefficent - 3
Constant- 5

Equation - 2C+4=10
Variable - C
Numerical Coefficient - 2
Constant - 4 and 10

Problem Solving

This is my problem I made, I hope you can solve it! (:

Bob saw that he had __ dollars in his pocket. He asked his mom if she had anymore spare change. Bob's mom gave __ dollars to make __ dollars. He remembered that he owes his friend Jack __. He went to Jack's house and gave it, now he has __ dollars. On his way home from Jack's house he found a dollar but he owes __ dollars for Chad and __ for Emma. He gave __ dollars to Emma and now Jack doesn't owe anyone else except for Chad.

Integers

ID the pattern, write a chart and create algabric equation

How many sticks if I have 211 houses?
4x+1=y
4(211)+1=y
844+1=845
845=y

Integers Continued
Zero pair - Is a pair of integer chips with one chip representing +1 and
one chip representing -1
Eg.

- the pair represents zero because (+1) + (-1) = 0
Opposite Integers - two integers with the same numeral (a number) but different signs (+,-)

Eg.

Here is a short video that can help you add integers.

Area of a Triangle

Area of Triangles

Triangle - A three sided figure
- has three angles
eg.

Because a triangle is half of a square, rectangle, or a parallelogram the formula to find a triangle's area is (bxh) divided by 2.

Practise

1. Find the area of triangle ABC

bxh divided by 2 = area of triangle

4x7 divided by 2 = a
28 divided by 2 = a

14 cm squared = area and answer

2.

bxh divided by 2 = area of triangle

4x6.5 divided by 2 = a

13 cm squared = area and answer

3.
bxh divided by 2 = area of triangle
10.5 x 8 divided by 2 = 84
84 divided by 2 = 42
42 mm squared = area and answer
