REMINDER !
Always Re-order before figuring out all measurements of tendency.
mean: All the numbers added together, divide by home much digits.
median: the middle number OR (if there is no middle number) add the two middle
numbers and divide by 2.
mode: the most number(s) there.
range: diffrence between the largest and smallest values in a data set.
outlier: number(s) that don't really fit with that data set.
Find the mean, median, mode, range, and outlier(s).
a) 12, 20, 18, 15, 10, 12.
b) 48, 32, 67, 61, 47, 95, 89, 888, 1.
a) re-order: 10, 12, 12, 15, 18, 20.
mean: 14.50
median: 13.5
mode: 12
range: 10
outlier(s): No outliers
b) re-order: 1, 32, 47, 48, 61, 67, 89, 95, 888.
mean: 166
median: 61
mode: no mode
range: 887
outlier(s): 888 and 1
Here is a video that covers: mean, median, mode and range.
Here is a video that covers: range and outlier(s).
Effects on Outliers
- Some outliers need to be removed from a data set. This is typically a judgement call.
- Outliers have an effect on ALL measurements of tendency.
HOMEWORK !
PAGES 444 - 445 NUMBERS 1 to 8 !
ALSO, Don't forget, we need to hand in our Number of the Day! So make sure you're done all of it to get a good mark ! :)
