Review and Effects on Outliers
Always Re-order before figuring out all measurements of tendency.
mean: All the numbers added together, divide by home much digits.
median: the middle number OR (if there is no middle number) add the two middle
numbers and divide by 2.
mode: the most number(s) there.
range: diffrence between the largest and smallest values in a data set.
outlier: number(s) that don't really fit with that data set.
Find the mean, median, mode, range, and outlier(s).
a) 12, 20, 18, 15, 10, 12.
b) 48, 32, 67, 61, 47, 95, 89, 888, 1.
a) re-order: 10, 12, 12, 15, 18, 20.
mean: 14.50
median: 13.5
mode: 12
range: 10
outlier(s): No outliers
b) re-order: 1, 32, 47, 48, 61, 67, 89, 95, 888.
mean: 166
median: 61
mode: no mode
range: 887
outlier(s): 888 and 1
Here is a video that covers: mean, median, mode and range.
Here is a video that covers: range and outlier(s).
Effects on Outliers
- Some outliers need to be removed from a data set. This is typically a judgement call.
- Outliers have an effect on ALL measurements of tendency.
HOMEWORK !

ALSO, Don't forget, we need to hand in our Number of the Day! So make sure you're done all of it to get a good mark ! :)

Introduction of Probability.
- Is the likely hood or change of an event occurring.
- Probability= favourable outcomes divided or over possible outcomes.
- One possible result of a probability experiment.
- (What might happen)
- a successful result in a probability experiment.
- (What people want to happen)

01/08/2010 Fractions.
Boys: Girls:
8 24
Passed: Passed:
4 + 18 = 22
*ANSWER: 22 kids passed the test.
Let's go shopping! Louis finds some great deals on dresses and earrings. The dress he bought is 3/5 the original of $60. The earrings were 3/8 the original price of $24. How much is his bill beofre tax? How much after 5% GST and 7% PST?
dress: 60/5= __ x 3 = 36.
earrings: 24/8= __ x 3 = 9.
1000 to, 500 to, 100 to, 75 to, 25 to, 10!* Remember, to do your HOMEWORK! :)
3/10 + 13/25 + 37/75 = ?

Geometry
Parallel - describes lines in the same place that never cross or intersect.- they are marked using arrows.
Perpendicular - describes lines that intersect at right angles (90degrees)- they are marked using a small arrow.
measure the distance from: A to B = 8.9 cm B to C = 8.9 cm
E to F = 8.9 cm F to G = 8.9 cm
I to J = 8.9 cm J to K = 8.9 cm
Identify any parallel line segment line:
AE is parallel to BF
BF is parallel to CG
EI is parallel to FJ
FJ is parallel to GK
AI is parallel to CK
Parallel lines are always the same distance apart. No matter where you measure as long as you measure using perpendicular lines.
Now using the same picture ^, identify any perpendicular line segments.
AE is perpendicular to DF
BF is perpendicular to EG
CG is perpendicular to FH
1. Are line segments AE and DF parallel?
2. Are line segments DF and BE perpendicular?
3. Are line segments AC and BG perpendicular?
How do you know?
4. Would a line segment joining A to D be parallel to a line segment BE?
How do you know?
